IFunia Video onverter

The only major drawback in our top-rated Mac video converter was its inability to convert audio files; Aimersoft Video Converter for Mac (standard version) does not suffer the same fault. In fact, it falls behind only in terms of editing features and ease of use. That is why it is ourTopTenREVIEWS Silver Award winner.

Features Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score

iFunia Video Converter Pro for Mac was the only Mac video converter we reviewed that offered auto-shutdown options – a handy feature if you happen to have a ton of videos to convert or if you have to leave your computer while the software does its thing. In terms of other features, there seems to be very little that this application cannot do. It lacks only the ability to create slideshow-style videos from still images, a bitrate calculator tool and the ability to split files directly. The latter issue can be solved, however, by loading a video file into the software multiple times and manually clipping it into the desired sections using the deinterlacing (clipping) tool. While this process that relies on time measurements instead of size measurements to split the file, it still produces results.
Other useful video editing tools, besides the aforementioned clipping/trimming tool, include the ability to merge multiple video files into one large file, crop the video image to remove unwanted objects, adjust the video’s volume level and adjust color features like brightness, saturation and contrast. We particularly like that you can flip the video image, which is especially helpful if you accidentally record a video with your phone or digital camera turned the wrong way. You can also find more advanced editing tools. There is a watermark creation tool (using either text or an image). And the special effects tools allow you to turn your color video to gray, sepia or half tones and add other quirky looks like embossing. You can see all of your changes before you save them, thanks to the side-by-side before-and-after preview comparison tool.
Extracting audio tracks and images from your videos is simple. This video converter for Mac lets you convert your video file to an audio file, which you can then clip and adjust as needed. Getting a still image from your video is even easier: just play the video in the software’s built-in media player and click the snapshot button to “take a picture” of the desired scene.
Conversion profiles make the actual conversion process a snap. They are categorized by type, like general audio, general video, HD video, iPod, PS3 video, Xbox 360 video, mobile phone and more. These profiles take the guesswork out of converting a purchased video a file you can view with your various devices or software applications because they pre-determine the audio-visual codec, bitrate, frame rate, channel, sample rate and resolution. Of course, you can tweak these output parameters a little or a lot to suit your needs. After you choose your output format, you can further customize the file by determining the output video and audio qualities. Other Mac video converters offer this feature, but few make it as simple as iFunia Video Converter Pro for Mac.

Supported Video Formats Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score

You can’t get much use out of your video converter for Mac if it doesn’t support the file formats you want to convert from or to. This software covers nearly all of the major video file formats, and even some less-common ones. We found that it only supports DV files as an input format; it can’t save files with this extension. Also, it offers no support for SWF files – an older format that is often missing from even the best video converter for Mac applications. In all other respects, however, this video converter for Mac software is fully capable of converting to and from nearly any format you want. It even supports converting to and from RealMedia files, a feature found in only four other Mac video converter applications we reviewed.

Other Supported Formats Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score

It is unfortunate that this Mac video converter is unable to directly convert one audio file format to another. In fact, nearly every other application we reviewed offered at least some level of audio conversion, but audio conversion is not video conversion, so we feel that this drawback is minimal. Audio extraction is still possible in a variety of common formats: You can extract audio as WAV, MP3 and WMA files, as well as the less common AAC, OGG and AIFF formats. The snapshot function can save images as either JPG or BMP files, though it cannot convert between image file formats.

Ease of Use Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score

This was an extremely important category in our review process. The technical processes behind Mac video conversion are overwhelming, so it’s imperative that the software be simple and intuitive. We were able to use this application immediately, without consulting any manual or tutorial, thanks to the clearly labeled sections in the software’s main window. The sections are numbered as well, so it’s like the application is walking you through the steps.
Navigation between the conversion and editing windows was far more intuitive than with other video converter for Mac applications we reviewed. Editing tools pop up in a separate window, and you exit the windows by clicking the clearly-labeled OK or Cancel buttons. The editing window itself was also pleasantly simple. Each tool is accessed via a clearly labeled tab under the preview comparisons. You can crop your video by dragging the viewer window or by typing in pixel measurements, and you can also drag the watermark to its desired location on the image. Similarly, the clip/trim tool (called “deinterlacing”) utilizes a dual-input format: either drag the sliders on the video’s time bar or type in the start and stop times in an hours:minutes:seconds format.
And of course, you can add files via a drag-and-drop functionality or by clicking the Add button, making it simple to do no matter what method you prefer.

Help & Support Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score

Another important factor when choosing a Mac video converter is the help and support options available. If you run into problems, whether they are related to downloading the software, installing it or using it, you should have a variety of options available to help you solve your problem.
Selecting Help from the software’s menu toolbar opens an HTML file that you can access even if you don’t have an internet connection. The user manual that comes with this Mac video converter offers a handy Getting Started section that acts as a quick-start guide if you want some guidance but don’t want to read the whole manual. The manual itself is relatively brief, though it goes into far more detail than the manual for most of the other Mac video converter applications we reviewed.
You can email iFunia Co. if you have any questions. The technical support team is excellent. They responded to the email we sent in the morning by early evening – the best response time of any support team we tested. We also liked that their response answered our question without trying to sell us on the product; they simply included a link to the main website and let us know we could find more information there.
The website offers FAQs related to buying this Mac video converter and to using it, as well as tutorials to walk you through the steps of video conversion.

Summary

Overall, we found iFunia Video Converter Pro for Mac to be an outstanding example of Mac video converter software, despite its lack of audio conversion features. If audio conversion is a must-have, check out our side-by-side comparison of Mac video converters for video converters that do both.
